Recently I ordered a phone from Aliexpress and it arrived India Customs after about 40 days and came to my post office a week later. The post office guy came up with a bill of Rs. 8400 for a Doogee S68 Pro which was purchased in Aliexpress for $200.
The post office bill was handwritten as 42% duty for the estimated price of Rs. 19000 in India. So according to my calculation, I purchased the phone for approximately Rs. 15000 and the duty was ~60%.
I was shocked to see that bill and asked for the invoice/receipt which the Customs would have given, the post man said nothing like that available. So I asked him to take it back and will come to post office for clarification.
To my surprise, the phone was returned (I asked him to do so initially, but then he forgot what I told at the end) to the foreign post office, which I believe it may be returned to the seller.
I referred to a document available online regarding the duty information on different products, but looks like the charges are more than mentioned.
